It was the spring of 2010 when my father had a near heart attack. The doctors said he was lucky to be alive since he only had a near miss. A full heart attack would have killed him at 58. I took off to work and joined my dad at the hospital and stayed with him for the next three weeks as he recovered from his surgery. His near miss wasn’t a heart attack but it was enough to get him rushed into surgery where he got three stints put in. Thanks to the skill of a young skilled doctor he avoided full open-heart surgery.

I was with him when we visited his cardiologist for his follow-ups and that’s when I learned about the Medifast diet. My father’s cardiologist told him that he absolutely needed to change his diet and told him he should join Medifast by name. Seems he recommended Medifast to all of his patients since we soon found out that the majority of my dad’s friends were already on it!

He was embarrassed and didn’t want to try it at all, but his friends came to him one by one wishing him well and telling him they had been there themselves. Go figure that they also all had heart attacks and were also told to join Medifast. He had now joined a club of his peers and had the card in his wallet to prove it. Finally he was willing to give it a shot.

It was my job to get things set up for him, find out about the diet, how much it cost and get it started before I left. It was then that I discovered how expensive the program could be! While on a meal-by-meal basis its actually quite cheap it does not seem cheap when you see that $300 dollar a month bill. That’s when I went coupon hunting.
